Short

Yesterdays color musing has left my creative brain fairly empty for today.  This very statement makes me want to stretch my mind and exercise whatever part of my brain houses my ability for word play.  Some days I feel that I can sit and write and things sounds lovely, most days I can not.  Today my post is short.  Tonight my eyelids are heavy and only want to close.  My happy things for today are:

  • Getting up early enough to eat some cereal at the house and not something in the car on the way to work or grabbing a snack bar when I got to work.
  • Going for a walk this afternoon.
  • Reaching 10,000 steps (it has been a while since that has happened.
  • Cat purrs.

Color-Picture Heavy

Perhaps it is just something about my upbringing in New England, but it seems that folks all seem to look forward to the green of spring.  Autumn in New England is the time for color.  I am here to tell you that spring has way more colors than green.  There are multiple shades of green as the trees begin to bud and then grow their leaves to fullness, many start out as red or orange buds.  Some trees start with flowers of various colors.  Today I went for a walk with my friend after work and took pictures of some of these wonderful colors.  I do not know what types of trees many are, perhaps they are imported from elsewhere, but others are native to the area and are still more than just green.

My happy for today is color, I blame it on my skirt...

Many shades along the roadway.

A rather light green with a darker pine behind.

More colors along the road.

Red tints.

White and magenta? flowering trees.

Yellow dandelions (not a tree 😉 )
--one of the first flowers that bees look for in the spring.

Something is a rusty red color back there.

Yellow forsythia are almost all green now.

Another red tree.

And another

Same tree as above, but looking up.

White, reds, yellows...

This is the petal covered grass from under the white flowered tree above.

Yet another flowering tree.

Not a tree...

Soon to bloom

Fairly certain they will become green.

And then there is the cat, also not a tree.  😀

Happy Mother's Day!

Well, I am not getting to bed on time but I did have a very relaxing day playing Minecraft with the family.  We were all able to get on there for at least a little while together.  Both my children, their partners and my grandson as well as the father of my kids and my friend from Texas.  Gideon, K, Z and I went to breakfast this morning and I somehow I forgot to take any pictures.  C made a very touching post on Facebook about the mothers in his life that brought tears to my eyes.  It was a happy day.

An Event Day-longish

Gideon hurt himself, not seriously, at an event we traveled to today.  He screamed, way too much.  It sounded fake, but wasn't.  His mom couldn't go and a friend was watching him while I had something to eat.  He tripped and scraped his hand a little less than an inch long.  When I was told I had a much more serious cut in my head.  It was the kind of scrape that is just deep enough to hit every single nerve cell and not bleed much.  So I say it isn't serious, but if we don't watch it and keep it clean, etc., it could become serious.

At this event, which was in a neighboring Barony, Gideon volunteered to be an ambassador and help introduce new people to the SCA.  He and I toured the site before his shift so he would know where everything was and he practiced a bunch of things he wanted to share with people and studied up on some of the awards and things people can earn.   From what I have been told he did really well.

Gideon has some tokens that he hands out to people as a thank you.  He did a great job of handing them out today.  During court the children are called in for the Running of the Toy Box.  They are greeted by Their Majesties and an adult is chosen to take the toy box and run until the kids catch them and the kids all get to choose a toy.  When Gideon went up with all the kids he gave a token to the Baron and Baroness and the Queen (the King was visited a different region).  After court the Queen came and gifted Gideon with one of her favors.  So cool.

The local Baroness came by to say hello to me at one point and I realized that I should make a point of doing the same when we have events and other Barons and Baronesses visit.  I might also want to look for them when I visit other Baronies and say hello, so they don't have to look for me.  This is one of the things that I just hadn't really thought through.  Part of the learning curve, and for this introvert, it will be one of the harder parts of this position of being a Baroness.

Unfortunately, the parking lot tried to eat the car and I had to patch it up with duct tape.  I think it will survive thankfully.  After the event we went out for dinner with some of the friends from the event and K and Z were able to join us.  All and all it was a very good day and dinner with friends was the icing on the cake.  My happy for the day is watching Gideon give the tokens to the Queen and other Baronages.  He is so very thoughtful.

One of his tokens.

Not the clearest shot, but this is  Gideon giving the Queen his token.

And Her favor to him.

Friday

As the exhaustion of today sinks deeper into my body, I find it more difficult to come up with good words to write about what my happy for today is.  The passenger window in the car I have been using is broken.  Not in the glass broke sort of way but in the motor for the window sometimes wants to work.  Well, it has no problem at all going down, just up.  Driving it the last few days I have accidentally put it down a little bit twice, putting it just a tad above halfway down.  I try to put it up off and on as I drive.  Looking out the window at work today there was a downpour.  I looked at the little car in the parking lot and wondered how wet things would be when I got out of work.  Somewhere, about halfway home from work the window went up.  Finally.  I immediately set the lock so that only the window that works is the driver's.  If I remember in the morning I will put something on the switch to make it more difficult to accidentally open the window.

Getting the window closed is my happy for today.

Endgame-short post

No real spoilers.  We went to an afternoon showing of Avengers: Endgame.  The first scene gave me chills and towards the end I was crying.  As is to be expected in an Avenger movie there was plenty of action.  Getting out to see the movie is certainly one of my happy things for today.  Others include dinner out after the movie and strawberry shortcake at work today as part of teacher appreciation.  Sleep is the next big thing on my list for today followed by Friday!!

Fidget

There was a professional development workshop this afternoon.  We learned about different strategies to help students in the classroom.  The thing that struck me on a more personal level is the amount of things I do that are apparently coping mechanisms.  Like bouncing my legs and rubbing my fingers and how eating can help me stay awake and pay better attention.  One of the other paras brought knitting to do and the teacher (an occupational therapist) encouraged them to knit during class.  I may bring sewing to the next professional development day-or a fidget toy.  😉

The blooming tree outside of school today was lovely and buzzing with bees.  These flowers and the bees pollinating them are my happy things for today.
