Chasing the Moon

Chasing the Moon is something that I seem to enjoy, often.  Someday maybe I will have a camera that will take the awesome pictures that I want to take.  I like to think the poor quality isn't ALL the photographer...  Z and I took a short walk tonight to see the moon.  I say short, but it was just under a mile, some people think a mile is a long way.  It can be, when there is a change in altitude involved or if I was running.  The moon is full-ish and brought to the imagination Dracula and werewolf movies  as it shined above the rooftops.

It has been five years since I hiked up Mount Washington with C.  On the 12th of September, 2014 we got as far as the Lake of the Clouds AMC Hut where we spent the night.  We managed to pick a good night.  At dinner, the sun set between two layers of clouds and was glorious.  After the sun set the skies were clear overhead and we were able to experience the Northern Lights.  The next day after a 'only' a mile long hike we reached the summit.  Clouds were coming in, some lenticular, some carrying rain.  We made it down before any rain.  It was probably the most difficult thing I have ever done physically, maybe aside from childbirth, although I am not sure they can be compared.  And that mile from the hut to the summit was long and painful.  It took every ounce of energy, willpower, prayers and conversations with family members who were no longer alive to get myself up there.  I couldn't have done it without C who was my strength and encouraged me along the way.

My happy things for today are:

  • Memories of Mount Washington.
  • Memories of my father.  His twin brother turned 86 years old today.
  • Walking to 'chase the moon.'
  • Remembering to pay my mortgage before it became REALLY late.
  • Making dinner with K.  It was a new recipe and it probably came out the way it was supposed to, but I will always prefer my bacon very crispy, even with kale.
  • Gideon hugs.
  • Balancing while walking on the edge of a sidewalk like a kid would do.
  • I had lunch with different people at work today and it was good.
  • A quick call from my friend in Texas.
  • Texts with my friend that I stay with often, but haven't seen in while.
  • Some nights, especially when I am tired and have to get up early I consider not writing this or only doing it once a week.  Then I come up with a list like this of things I am happy about and I remember why I write it every day.  Going through the day and searching for something happy can be really hard some days.  It really does help my mood though.  Some days are easier to write about than others; this was a good day.

Wednesday

Some things at work are starting to fall into place.  I think I am starting to get the hang of some of this job again.  Amazing how routines can be forgotten so easily.

My happy for today is that I have checked the pedometer app against my Fitbit and the app is coming in with less steps.  I had so many steps the first day I thought it must be counting every movement.  Since I know from experience that the Fitbit does not, I feel pretty good about the step count from the other day.

Another happy for today is seeing how productive K has been this week.  She's been steadily working to get a new outfit sewn for this weekend.   I wish I was that motivated when I get home from work.

Fragments

Second week of school and the days are already getting long.  I'm not quite into the groove and routine yet.  New students and different classes to get used to.

This evening I went to the store to get some things and as I left I was greeted by this darkening blue sky with just a touch of pink.  Once again I am left wondering at why I am so enchanted by the sky.  All of it--the sun, moon, stars and clouds.  It is an endless beauty, even dull grey days can hold intricate shapes and swirls.

The other day I mentioned to Gideon the sunset I saw from Mount Washington a few years ago and he asked me if I had touched a cloud.  This led to a discussion about clouds and fog and weather.  Teaching moments are everywhere.

Today my happy things include getting errands done, smiles at work, and the sky.

Mandala

Somehow this morning I left my pedometer at home.  As soon as I got to work I downloaded an app for my phone and it seemed to work.  Tomorrow I will use them both and see how close they are.  K and I got out for a walk after dinner tonight.  I'm hoping that we will get a routine going of talking Barony stuff and exercise on Monday nights while Gideon and Z are at Scouts.

In art class today the students made mandalas.  I ended up doing a bunch for one of the students.  The teacher was hoping that the students would look at the project and use it meditatively.  I'm planning on doing just that.

My happy things for today are drawing a mandala, walking with K, the moon, and clean sheets.

Sunday--Another short post

Mountains did not get climbed today.  I had hoped to climb, or at least hike somewhere, but I just wasn't feeling well enough for such a large endeavor.  I did go out for a short walk and got some fresh air.  Lunch out with family and friends also happened.  These are my happy things for today.

We talked about houses today--buying, selling, fixing up and such.
Not sure what may become of all the talk but-
Then I got this for a fortune:

Three trees were cut down yesterday nearby.

Day Off-very short.

It was a lazy day today.  Family, friends and I played some Minecraft, I took a nap and we watched some shows.  My happy is that I am able to have restful days.

It appears that the tree is coming down.

Friday!!

Sometime during the week one of the teachers mentioned to the class that he and his son are trying to climb the 4000 footers in NH.  This reminded me that I was hoping to climb at least one of them myself over the summer.  I haven't, yet.  I may not.  Or I may disappear on Sunday into the mountains.  Only time will tell.  I have just spent approximately the last 5 hours and 16 minutes playing Minecraft.  My Texas friend, ex-husband and myself played together and joined forces killing monsters and building things.  Tomorrow (which is actually later today at this point) a group of us are hoping to play together again.  I hope I am awake for it.

Happy things for today include a nice walk I took to craft night, seeing friends and making some plans for awards for the event in October, over 13,000 steps today and laughing hysterically over silly antics playing Minecraft.
