Hurt

It was a long drive to the event and even with four other people in the car talking, I fell asleep for a few minutes.  K sprained her ankle last weekend and it is still sore.  Between that and both of us being kind of tired we didn't wander around the event too much.  Being stationary was probably a good thing for K's ankle.

It was a lovely event.  I found myself smiling often.  My happy for today is that I smiled until my cheeks hurt.  Now it is late and my eyes are drooping, but the cheeks are still a little sore.  That is a sign for a good day, when your cheeks hurt from smiling.  😁

Just a Happy

There is a Yule event tomorrow so I am home to make traveling together easier.  It should mean that I get more sleep too, but I am once again up too late.  I've been waiting for the laundry to finish and found things to watch while I wait.  I'm looking forward to attending a Yule event that is not part of our Barony.  It should be fun seeing how others celebrate Yule.

My happy for today is the car started, I'm home, my laundry is washed, and we have started the list for people who are getting awards.  Finding people to give an award to is hard.  We can't know everyone and rely on recommendations.  Giving out the awards is great.

Short Story

As part of the Language Arts short stories the teacher had some of the students act out one of them.  In one of the classes I was in the students were reluctant to volunteer.  The teacher asked if I would mind.  So I stepped in as Mr. White.  Then a boy stepped up to be Mrs. White and one for Harold and the Sargent and a girl for the stranger in a screen play version of Monkey's Paw.  I decided to do my best in forgetting that there were a bunch of seventh graders that I was performing for (and with) and had fun.  So we all read from the script and stumbled over words and acted out the show.  This was my happy for today.

After work, the battery on the car was dead again and I had to ask for someone to help me jump start it.  Great friend/coworker is what I am extra thankful for today.

A Day With the Arts

Today was a field trip day at school.  We saw Chamber Theatre Productions presentation with five short stories for Language Arts.  They read the Tell Tale Heart in class over the last week or two and would have read two of the other stories had we not had snow days.  We saw this performance last year as well.  Last year there was a problem with a vehicle and there were no costumes.  This year, they had costumes.  As much as I don't like the bus rides, I like the shows.

After school I met up with a friend and went to Boston to meet up with other friends and go to the Museum of Fine Arts.  It was a surprise for a special lady's birthday.  One of the exhibits was a music room.  There were many unique instruments.  It seemed that each one that I thought could be ancient (or at least medieval) was not.  The ones I saw were mostly from the nineteenth or early twentieth century.  We didn't get to here any being played, but there had been a little concert earlier.

There was an exhibit with Boston artisans and one about ancient Nubia.  Within the Nubian exhibit there was a quiver.  The write up about it said that it was found with arrows.  The arrows weren't on display and I found that disappointing.

There were so many different exhibits and so little time.  The look on my friends face when she realized that we were there to surprise her is my happy for  todqy

Snow Day Number Two--Short Post

If this is a sign of how the winter storms will be, summer will come late for me.  It snowed most of the day, ending just before sunset.  After shoveling and helping the neighbor who plows the driveway, I went for a walk.  It was rather spur of the moment.  I was about to go back into the house and decided to lock the door and walk instead.  The walk ended up revealing a pink and orange sunset that I would have missed had I gone back inside.  The sunset is my happy for today.

Snow Day Number One

The first snow day of this school year found me particularly lazy.  Yes, I did shovel, but not much more.  I spent a great deal of time trying to download things from some of the Yahoo Groups that I have.  They are getting rid of many of the services provided so I am saving what I can.  There are a bunch of family pictures on one that I didn't want to lose.  After doing that, one picture at a time, I may have found a way to save them all at once through Yahoo.  Supposedly they will let me know when this is ready.  Not holding by breath, it has been a few hours and nothing so far.

My happy for today is shoveling.  Getting outside for just a little while felt good.  Tomorrow there will be more shoveling.  The wind is whistling and more snow is falling.

Happy December

There was a post-Thanksgiving/pre-Christmas get together today for my father's side of the family.  It was really great to visit with family that I don't see often.  My 97 year old aunt/godmother was one of the people I got to visit with.  She was recently diagnosed with lung cancer.  Her daughter asked everyone who visited today to put an ornament onto the Christmas tree.  It was a nice way for people to be involved.

The meteorologists have been predicting a rather large storm starting tonight and going into Tuesday.  School is canceled already for tomorrow.  Below are some pictures of the back yard.  It is supposed to be bad around 3 AM, I think, with white out conditions.  From the view point inside the house, it doesn't look too bad outside yet.

My happy for today is time with family and getting back to the house before the snow started to fall.

This first picture is the backyard before the snow started to fall. (6:01 PM)

Snow has started in this picture.  (8:18 PM)

More snow.   (11:16 PM)
The more the snow, the lighter out it seems.
