Ice

The snow of yesterday was just a memory when I left for work this morning.  The sun was rising and the clouds were parting for a bright and chilly day.  After school there was a skate trip that I was chaperone for.  After that, I went to visit my aunt to help her with something online.

As I put on the skates and tightened the laces I thought about how much my feet would be hurting later.  It was worth it.  It has been a year since I was on the ice.  This same rink at last year's after school skate day.  I didn't take any real breaks, staying on the ice for almost an hour, only stopping occasionally to see if a fallen student was okay or talk to someone not on the ice.  The last 15 minutes I was pushing myself to stay out there.  My legs were tired and didn't quite want to stay under me as when I began.  Going around there were places where I could see the concrete floor through the ice.  Lake skating seems more forgiving to me when one falls, the ice floats and somehow seems softer than in indoor rink with concrete.  Running through my head was the saying 'it isn't how many times you fall, but how many times you get up that counts.'  I didn't fall on the ice today, I got onto the ice once and stayed until it was over.

Ice skating is my happy for today.

Putting on the skates.

and barn that is starting to crumble.

Finch

It was a cloudy, chill, spring day.  Mist collected on my car window after work.  Sitting and relaxing later the skies opened and the sound of heavy, sleet and rain beat down on the house.  When the sound started to go away, it was snowing instead of raining.  When the snow let up, there were birds finding dinner among the snow kissed leaves on the yard.  This is my happy for today.

Games

Work today was... loud.  Either the classes themselves were just loud because of the assignment or the students were just more rambunctious than usual.  The end result was that when I got back to the house I turned on Minecraft and played a bit to relax some.  It was good.  I am trying to explore more in the game I am involved with.  In the back of my mind though I have been wondering about how the game could be used for education.  So I Googled and found a site on using Minecraft for education here.  More research is required.  This game is just the right balance for my love of resource management games and then when more action is what I am in the mood for there are zombies and other creatures to fight.

Since we finished with the Marvel movies yesterday we had to find something else to watch tonight.  Eureka won.  We https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0796264/had started to watch the series a while back and took a break from it for the Marvel movies.  Eureka and Minecraft are my happy things for today.

Coronation Take Two

We chose to head back home instead of going to the MET Cloisters or taking another side trip.  Instead we got back to our friend's house and watched the last two Marvel movies on the list that we can watch at a home.  So Avengers: Infinity War and Ant-Man and the Wasp are now checked off the list.

Yesterday's Coronation that I said I would write about today... we had a good time.  The general theme was 16th century Venetian and so those who had that style of garb to wear, did.  Thanks to K, I now have some 16th century Venetian. My hope is to round out my SCA wardrobe with some garb from different areas and time periods.  I will keep 12th century Norman as my go to though.  Any how, Z got an award!  He was awarded a Silver Wheel which is for service.  Well deserved!  The new King and Queen did very well, I thought, presiding over their first court, handing out awards and coming up with the right things to say.  Next weekend will be the first court that K and I will be doing.

Today my happy is finishing up the Marvel movies.  I wonder what we will find to watch next?

Many pictures of yesterday's Coronation:

Coronation

Today, a good friend became the Queen of the East.  There was much celebration and good cheer.  Many pictures were taken but it is late and so I will post more tomorrow about the event and happenings.  It was good, happy things happened.

Development

It was a professional development day for work today.   No students.   We learned about Executive Functioning, Work Study Practices and the different things that result in needing an Independent Education Program.   My big take-aways are that the students need to be taught how to learn at the beginning of every school year, that I can help the students better by learning the language of the Work Study Practices and I should try doing the Work Study Practices too.

The day was long.   Work was followed by hours of driving and now I am in an Air B&B far from home.  The weather was nice this morning but we drove through some snow and much rain before arriving at our destination.

My happy today is how blessed I am to have so many helpful and kind people in my life.

This lovely lady has been working on my garb today.

Tired Sewing

It is late and I have been sewing, with the machine this time and some hand stitching.  K is still sewing, my brain is tired though and so the sewing must stop for me.  I have a new chemise with a gown to go over it that are both mostly done.  Hopefully they will be even more mostly done by the time the event starts on Saturday.  More sewing is my happy for today.  Also just got a message from someone from my high school days who is living in Myanmar.  Now I must sleep.
